Nevertheless - male impotence was and still is a topic that men don't want to discuss.
The occurrence of diabetic impotence (also: erectile dysfunction) is closely connected with the quality of the diabetes therapy and the consequential diseases already existing. The worse the metabolic setting, the more often erection problems appear. This means, impotence is not an age related phenomenon and cannot be described as fateful.
When consulting the doctor the first thing to do, is to find out the reasons for the erectile dysfunction. Besides various questions, for example about other mental strains in the relationship or profession or about other medication, the sensing of the primary sexual organs, the groins and the prostrate gland and also the taking of a blood sample, to exclude other diseases or disturbances of the hormone balance, are also parts of the examination. From these questions and examinations conclusions can be made towards the cause for the erectile dysfunction. Based on this, an Urologist or Diabetologist can design the further therapy.
Should psychological problems, like conflicts within the relationship or the fear of failure, play a big part then a psychologist or a Psychotherapist should be consulted. More often organic reasons like nerve disorders, disturbance of the hormone balance, vascular diseases or the taking of medication to lower the blood pressure are the cause for erectile dysfunction. This clearly shows how important a good metabolic setting is to avoid impotence.
And what should never be done is: To forgo help because of shame!
If you are affected it is important, that you talk about your problem to your trusted doctor and search for the reasons together with him. The chances for a successful treatment are very high!
