FIFA World Cup(tm) cities: Hanover

FIFA World Cup(tm) cities: Hanover

Hanover belongs to the ten biggest cities in Germany and is home to many trade shows with world wide importance. The CeBIT, for example, is one of the world's most important computer fairs. The EXPO 2000, which was the last world fair of the 20th century also took place in the capital of Lower Saxony.

Yet this is by far not all Hanover has to offer: Besides science and trade, sports are a major issue in this city as well as leisure and recreation. Located on the fringe of the city centre, the Sports Park provides ideal conditions for top events and mass sports.

The Stadium

The Niedersachsenstadion, which is also located within the Sports Park, has a total capacity of 50,000 seats for Bundesliga matches and approximately 40,000 seats will be available for the FIFA World Cup 2006™ matches. Like many of the FIFA World Cup 2006™ stadiums the Niedersachsenstadion has been completely rebuilt and is fully equipped with all the features of modern football arenas like undersoil heating, LED video walls and a 26,400 watt audio system. The German Red Cross will be providing medical care for all eventualites and diabetic emergency care will of course be provided as well.

Accomodation

Hanover has many hotels in all price ranges. If you haven't booked your hotel yet, it's high time. The easiest way to do so is by using this link provided by the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Accommodation Services (WCAS):

When booking your hotel you should inquire whether the hotel has its own doctor and if that is not the case, the reception desk should be able to tell you where the nearest doctor and pharmacy are.

Leisure, culture and nightlife in Hanover

Hanover has the advantage of having a forest in the middle of the city. This enables its citizens and the visitors to access an environment of recreation, sports and leisure as easily as it gets. The Maschsee Lake and the Steinhuder Lake provide best conditions for swimming, sailing and rowing. Numerous art exhibitions and museums, the State Opera and various theatres are waiting for those who are looking for culture besides the action on the pitch and the Hanover Experience Zoo is the perfect spot to get as close to the animals as it would normally only be possible in the wilderness.
Of course the Zoo includes the fauna of all 6 continents.

It's just a small step from wildlife to nightlife in Hanover:
No matter whether you're into pop music, electro, latin, jazz or waltz, Hanover has got the club of your choice. Restaurants are plenty and range from traditional German food to nouvelle quisine and excquisite exotic meals.
