Being also known as "Benztown", Stuttgart lies deep in the heart of Swabia. Home to the Daimler-Chrysler Group, it is one of the major industrial cities in Europe. Since the 1980s Stuttgart has earned its reputation as a sports city by hosting the 1986 European Track and Field Championship, the EURO '88 and the 1993 IAAF Track and Field World Championship
Stuttgart has a lot more to offer than "just sports". The beautiful landscape around the city, the city itself located between numerous hills and the friendly, open-minded people make the capital of Baden-Wuerttemberg worth a visit.
The city has prepared itself for the FIFA World Cup 2006™ by installing many huge video screens and various international parties that will be held every evening.
The Stadium
Being the location of the first international football match after the second World War against Switzerland in 1950, these historical football grounds are certainly obliged to provide an appropriate atmosphere for the forthcoming matches. The modernisation of the "Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium", named after the founder of the corporation that helped to form the economic character of the region, was finished by the end of 2005. The gross seating capacity is 53,000 and the visual highlight of the stadium is its textile roofing, which in combination with the grid that supports it, is a fine reminiscence to the vineyards that are so typical for the region.

Stuttgart is another one of Germany's "green cities". Located in between steep, green hills, it is surrounded by vineyards and forests. The city itself provides various parks and green areas to leave the hassle of the football behind. Numerous theatres, museums, castles and palaces won't leave the cultural interested unsatisfied.
